I like to have our teams pushing the ball, picks/pops, pick/roll, pick/fade/circle away, change of pace/direction, rebounding techniques, teaching off ball movement to get your teammate or yourself a better shot. You need to pass up the good shot for the better shot. Keep your eyes up at all times.
I coach like I played. At first, I made my college team because I was a defensive stopper guarding the other teams fastest and quickest guard usually the point guard. Growing up in Memphis, we pressed the entire game, rotating in and out, run and gun on offense. Only in college, did I really develop my shot, learn how to play with pace and not run all the time at high speed. So, I am focused more on coaching on/off ball movements, shooting, and spacing on offense. I can help players fix or improve their outside shot, floaters, stop and pop, or drives to hoop. Ball handling and big men I also enjoy working on. Feed the hot hand and be a good teammate is my philosophy. Another philosophy is green light - if the shot is good we want all our players to have the green light. Players need to learn when it is good or not. We teach that. I try to increase their confidence on their shot. It is all about putting in the extra work. You have to want it.
